The Energy of ConnectionWhat the Trees Can Teach Us About Belonging

Last week, during a session with a longtime client who lives in the beautiful forests of Maine, something unexpected happened.
We found ourselves talking about trees.
Not just how beautiful they are, but about their ancient wisdom. About the way forests are alive in ways we are only beginning to understand. Scientists now know that trees communicate through vast underground fungal networks, sharing nutrients, sending signals of danger, and even supporting weaker trees. What appears to be a collection of individual trees is actually an interconnected community.
As we talked, I found myself asking her a simple question:
“What if you saw yourself as a tree?”
The moment I said it, I could feel something shift.
That single question became the inspiration for last week’s Sacred Soul Sessions meditation, and it has stayed with me ever since.
When life feels overwhelming, it’s easy to believe we’re carrying everything alone. We focus on our own challenges, our own worries, our own path.
We forget that, just like the trees, we are part of something much larger than ourselves.
Imagine yourself as a great tree.
Your roots extend deep into the Earth, drawing up strength, nourishment, peace, and unconditional love. The deeper your roots grow, the steadier you become. Storms may come. Winds may bend your branches. Seasons will change. Yet your roots continue to hold you.
Then imagine your trunk—strong, steady,
resilient. It has weathered every season of your life. Every experience, every challenge, every joy has added another ring of wisdom.
And finally, imagine your branches reaching outward.
Each branch represents someone in your life—your family, your friends, your coworkers, the people you encounter every day. Every leaf is a connection. Some are close. Some are brief. Yet every interaction creates a ripple.
We often underestimate how deeply our energy affects those around us.
A smile.
A kind word.
A moment of patience.
Simply being fully present.
Like sunlight filtering through a forest, these small moments touch more lives than we realize.
One of my favorite parts of the meditation was imagining love flowing upward from the Earth, through the roots, into the trunk, and then out through every branch until every leaf was glowing with light.
As that happened, participants were invited to remember something so simple—and yet so easy to forget:
We are never separate.
The Earth supports us.
Life supports us.
And we support one another, often without even realizing it.
Sometimes we believe we have to heal the entire world. But perhaps our only job is to keep our own roots healthy.
When we stay grounded…
When we choose love over fear…
When we take care of our own energy…
That energy naturally extends outward to everyone connected to us.
Just like a healthy tree strengthens
an entire forest.
This summer invites us outdoors more than any other season.
Whether you’re sitting beneath a giant oak, walking through a wooded trail, or simply noticing the tree outside your window, pause for a moment.
Place your hand on its trunk.
Take a slow breath.
Remember that the same Earth holding that tree is holding you, too.
You are rooted.
You are supported.
You are connected to something far greater than yourself.
And perhaps, just like the trees, your quiet presence is nourishing others in ways you’ll never fully know.
May you stand tall, grow gently, and continue sharing your light with every life your branches touch.
With love,
Laura
