The Energy of Ease

What if this summer wasn’t about doing more… but allowing more?

There’s something about summer that reminds us life doesn’t always have to move so fast.

The days are a little longer. The evenings invite us outside. We linger over dinner, take walks after sunset, sit on the porch a little longer, or find ourselves watching the fireflies instead of checking one more email.

Summer has a way of whispering, Slow down. Breathe. Enjoy this.

Yet even in a season that naturally encourages us to relax, many of us still carry the same energy we’ve been living in all year.

We rush.

We overthink.

We try to solve every problem before it exists.

We convince ourselves that everything has to be difficult.

One of my favorite visualizations to use with clients comes from something completely unexpected—the old Staples Easy Button.

You probably remember the commercial. Someone would press the big red button and hear those simple words: “That was easy.”

Whenever a client begins spiraling into overthinking or telling themselves how hard something is going to be, I ask them to pause and imagine pressing that Easy Button.

Not because the challenge magically disappears.

But because their energy changes.

And often, that’s where everything begins to shift.

I’ve noticed that many of us have become conditioned to expect life to be hard.

We tell ourselves that success requires struggle.

Healing takes forever.

Building a business is exhausting.

Relationships are complicated.

The more we repeat those stories, the more our nervous system begins preparing for difficulty before we’ve even taken the first step.

What if we simply became curious enough to ask a different question?

What if this could be easier than I think?

Not perfect.

Not effortless.

Just easier.

Because ease isn’t about avoiding responsibility.

It’s about releasing unnecessary resistance.

There’s an old saying I come back to often:

What you resist, persists.

The more tightly we try to control every outcome, the more tension we create within ourselves.

Nature shows us another way.

A river doesn’t stop when it reaches a bend.

It doesn’t argue with the rocks in its path.

It flows around them.

The trees don’t rush to bloom.

The tide doesn’t force its way to shore.

Everything in nature moves with its own rhythm, trusting the season it’s in.

Perhaps we’re meant to live that way, too.

This summer, maybe the invitation isn’t to push harder.

Maybe it’s to soften.

To trust.

To let yourself be supported.

To stop carrying things that were never yours to hold.

To remember that flow often creates more progress than force ever could.

This Week’s Practice: Press the Easy Button

This week, notice how many times you catch yourself saying:

“This is going to be hard.”

“I don’t know how I’m going to get everything done.”

“This always happens.”

The moment you notice it, pause.

Take a slow, deep breath.

Imagine a bright red Easy Button right in front of you.

Press it.

Feel your shoulders relax.

Soften your jaw.

Let your breath become slower and deeper.

Then quietly ask yourself:

“What would this look like if I allowed it to be easy?”

Or simply,

“What’s the next easiest aligned step?”

Maybe it’s making one phone call instead of planning the next ten.

Maybe it’s asking for help.

Maybe it’s taking a walk before trying to solve the problem.

Maybe it’s deciding that today doesn’t need to feel rushed.

As you move through the rest of this summer, allow yourself to practice flow.

Notice where life is already supporting you.

Notice where you’re forcing instead of trusting.

And remember…

Ease isn’t something you earn after you’ve worked hard enough.

Sometimes it’s a choice.

A breath.

A shift in perspective.

A willingness to believe that life can meet you with a little more grace than you expected.

Here’s to a summer of flowing instead of forcing.

With love,

Laura
