The Energy of Receiving Why It’s So Hard to Let Life Support You

For most of my life, I believed that if something was going to happen, I needed to make it happen.

Work harder.

Push a little more.

Figure it out.

Control the outcome.

Whether it was leading teams in the corporate world, building my business, or supporting clients through life’s challenges, I became very comfortable being the one who carried the weight.

Maybe you can relate.

Many of us have been taught that strength means self-reliance. That asking for help is weakness. That receiving somehow means we’ve done less.

But what if true strength isn’t found in how much we can carry?

What if it’s found in our ability to trust that we don’t have to carry everything alone?

When We Resist Receiving

I see this often in my sessions.

A client comes in exhausted, overwhelmed, and disconnected from themselves.

On the surface, they may be asking for clarity around a relationship, career change, health concern, or life transition.

But underneath, there is often a deeper pattern:

“I have to do it all myself.”

Many of us have become so accustomed to giving—to our jobs, our families, our communities—that we forget how to receive support, guidance, rest, and even love.

We may say we want abundance, peace, or connection.

Yet when it arrives, we question it.

We wonder if we deserve it.

We look for conditions.

We keep working harder instead of allowing ourselves to receive what is already trying to reach us.

Receiving isn’t passive.

It’s an act of trust.

It’s opening the door to possibilities we may not be able to create through effort alone.

A Simple Practice: Opening to Receive

Find a quiet place and place one hand on your heart.

Take three slow breaths.

As you breathe, ask yourself:

Where in my life am I working harder than I need to?

What support is already available to me that I’m not allowing in?

What would it feel like to trust that I am supported?

Then simply sit for a moment and notice what arises.

No forcing.

No figuring it out.

Just listening.

An Invitation

Whether you’re navigating a career transition, building something new, leading others, or simply trying to find your way through a challenging season, remember this:

You don’t have to do it all alone.

There is wisdom in taking action.

There is also wisdom in allowing.

This week, give yourself permission to receive—support, guidance, rest, inspiration, and the next step that is waiting to meet you.

Sometimes the breakthrough isn’t found in doing more.

It’s found in opening the door.

Much love,

Laura
