When Life Changes Unexpectedly: How to Use the Energy to Reinvent Yourself

There are moments in life where things don’t go according to plan.
Something shifts.
A door closes.
A conversation changes everything.
A path you thought you were on suddenly… isn’t there anymore.
And in that moment, it’s easy to feel thrown off.
Uncertain.
Even a little untethered.
I know this feeling well—not just from my own experiences, but from the clients I work with every day.
High-achieving professionals.
Leaders.
People who are used to being in control… suddenly facing something they didn’t choose.
And what I’ve seen, again and again, is this:
Unexpected change isn’t just disruption.
It’s the moment where reinvention becomes available.

The Energy of Change
When something in your life changes unexpectedly, there’s an energetic shift that happens.
Something old begins to dissolve.
A role.
An identity.
A way of being that once fit… but no longer does.
Most people immediately go into reaction:
trying to fix it
trying to control it
trying to get back to what felt “normal”
But what’s actually happening underneath the surface is this:
Energy is being freed.
The structure that once held you is loosening.
And that creates space.
Not always comfortable space—but powerful space.
When It Feels Like Rejection
Sometimes change shows up as rejection.
A role you didn’t get.
A relationship that shifts.
An opportunity that falls through.
And it can feel personal.
Like something didn’t work out… or you weren’t chosen.
But what I’ve come to understand—both in my own life and through my work with clients—is this:
Rejection is often protection.
Not in a surface-level, “everything happens for a reason” kind of way…
but in a deeper, energetic truth.
You’re being redirected.
Because what you were reaching for may not actually be aligned with where you’re meant to go next.
A Real Moment From Last Week
Just last week, a client came in after being unexpectedly let go from her job.
She was shaken.
Questioning everything.
Trying to make sense of how something so sudden could happen.
At first, it felt like rejection.
Like something had been taken from her.
But as we moved through the session—into her energy, into what she had been holding—we started to see a different picture.
She had been feeling disconnected for a while.
Holding onto a path that no longer felt aligned, but was familiar… safe.
As she began to release that attachment—and allow herself to consider that this change wasn’t happening to her, but for her—something shifted.
You could feel it.
Her body softened.
Her energy opened.
The heaviness started to lift.
And what came through was clarity.
There was a path she had put on hold.
Something she had been quietly wanting… but hadn’t given herself permission to fully step into.
By the end of the session, she wasn’t in fear anymore.
She felt lighter.
Freer.
Not because everything was figured out…
but because she was no longer resisting what had already shifted.
That’s the power of this work.
The Moment In Between
There’s a phase that happens after change and before clarity.
I call it the in-between.
It’s where:
you don’t feel like your old self
but you’re not fully anchored in the new yet
This is the part most people try to rush through.
But this is actually where the work is.
Where the awareness deepens.
Where your energy recalibrates.
Where your next version starts to take shape.
A Simple Practice to Work With Change
The next time something shifts unexpectedly, try this:
Pause → Feel → Redirect
Pause
Before reacting, give yourself space. Not everything needs an immediate answer.
Feel
Where is this landing in your body? Tightness? Pressure? Let yourself notice without judgment.
Redirect
Ask yourself:
What is this opening up for me?
Not why is this happening—
but what is now possible?
Reinvention Isn’t Forced
Not everything that changes is meant to be fixed.
Some things are meant to be released…
so something more aligned can come in.
And sometimes what feels like rejection…
is actually redirection.
If you’re in the middle of unexpected change right now,
it may feel uncomfortable.
But it may also be the exact moment where your next level is trying to emerge.
Not through force.
Not through control.
But through alignment.
