Finding Calm in the Chaos—When Things Don’t Go as Planned

There’s something about opening a home for the season.

I arrived this weekend and, like every year, there’s that quiet moment before I walk in where I wonder…

What will need fixing? What shifted while I was away? What am I walking into?

And almost without fail—something always comes up.

A pipe, a crack, something not working the way it should.

It would be easy to go straight into frustration.

To tighten. To react. To feel like it’s “one more thing.”

But this time, I paused.

Because what if this isn’t the problem?

What if this is the practice?

We spend so much of our lives trying to create calm by controlling what’s around us.

When everything is in order… then I’ll feel settled.

When nothing goes wrong… then I can relax.

But life doesn’t really work that way.

There will always be something unexpected.

Something that needs attention.

Something that pulls at your energy if you let it.

And yet—there is another way.

Calm isn’t something you find after the chaos is resolved.

It’s something you choose within it.

It’s the breath you take before reacting.

It’s the moment you soften instead of tightening.

It’s the quiet knowing that says, I am supported, no matter what is happening here.

Even a broken pipe…

Even a mess you didn’t plan for…

Even the inconvenience you didn’t ask for…

Can become a doorway.

A doorway back to presence.

A doorway back to trust.

A doorway back to yourself.

And maybe this is where gratitude shifts.

Not just for the things that are working…

But for the moments that invite you to deepen.

To slow down.

To respond differently.

To remember that your peace isn’t dependent on your circumstances.

Because the truth is—

You can be steady… even when things feel unsteady.

You can feel supported… even when things go off track.

You can find calm… even here.

This is the work I do with my clients.

Not just helping them feel better when life is easy—

but helping them build a grounded, steady internal state that holds… even when life moves.

Because it will.

So this week, notice:

Where are you waiting for things to settle… before you allow yourself to feel calm?

And what would shift if you chose it now?

A Simple Reset for Calm in the Moment

When something feels off, overwhelming, or not going as planned… try this:

1. Pause.

Before reacting, give yourself a moment. Even just a few seconds.

2. Breathe.

Inhale slowly through your nose…

Exhale gently through your mouth…

Do this 3–5 times, letting your body soften with each breath.

3. Ground.

Feel your feet. Your body.

Bring yourself back into the present moment—right here, right now.

4. Choose Gratitude.

Even here… find one thing.

I’m here. I can handle this. I am supported.

5. Allow Patience.

Not everything needs to be solved immediately.

Give yourself space to respond, rather than react.

This is how we begin to shift.

Not by changing everything around us…

but by changing how we meet it.

And over time, this becomes your new way of being—

steady, grounded, and calm… no matter what unfolds.

With love and alignment,

Laura
