Navigating Change: When Your Old Identity No Longer Fits

There’s a moment in every evolution where something feels… off.
Nothing is necessarily wrong.
From the outside, everything may even look successful.
But internally?
You know you’ve outgrown something.
As someone who spent 30 years in corporate leadership before stepping fully into my healing work, I understand this space deeply. Change doesn’t always arrive as chaos. Sometimes it arrives as a quiet whisper:
There’s more for you.
And that whisper can be unsettling. Mine was in Spring of 2020..
The In-Between Space
Most people think change is about action.
Resigning. Launching. Moving. Ending. Beginning.
But the most powerful part of change happens before the external shift. It happens internally.
It’s the space where:
Your nervous system is recalibrating
Your identity is restructuring
Your intuition is getting louder
And your old patterns are losing their grip
This space can feel uncomfortable because the old version of you no longer fits — but the new version hasn’t fully anchored yet.
That doesn’t mean you’re lost.
It means you’re expanding.
Corporate Language Calls It “Transition.”
Energetic Language Calls It “Alignment.”
In leadership circles, we talk about pivots, reinvention, and strategic direction.
In energetic work, we talk about alignment, integration, and sovereignty.
They are not separate conversations.
Change requires both:
Clear decision-making
Emotional regulation
Energetic stability
And intuitive trust
The leaders and professionals I work with often aren’t lacking skill.
They’re lacking internal clarity.
And clarity doesn’t come from overthinking.
It comes from settling the nervous system long enough to hear yourself.
Why Change Feels So Uncomfortable
Your brain likes certainty.
Your ego likes identity.
Your nervous system likes predictability.
Change threatens all three.
Even positive change can trigger:
Fatigue
Irritability
Second-guessing
Overanalyzing
Sudden fear
It’s not weakness.
It’s biology.
The key isn’t forcing yourself through change.
It’s stabilizing your energy while you move through it.
A Simple Practice for Navigating Change
Try this when you feel unsettled:
1. Sit comfortably and place one hand on your heart, one on your lower abdomen.
2. Inhale slowly through the nose for 4 counts.
3. Exhale slowly for 6 counts.
4. Ask internally: “What is trying to emerge?”
5. Don’t force an answer. Just notice what arises.
Often the first thing that surfaces isn’t a strategy.
It’s a feeling.
Follow the feeling before you follow the plan.
That’s where aligned decisions are born.
Change Is Not a Crisis. It’s a Signal.
If you feel like something is shifting in your life right now, you’re not behind.
You’re not unstable.
You’re not failing.
You’re evolving.
The question isn’t “How do I control this?”
The question is:
Can I trust who I’m becoming?
That’s the work.
That’s the practice.
And that’s what we do inside Soul Alignment sessions — we calm the noise so your next step becomes obvious.
Closing Invitation…
If you’re navigating change — personally or professionally — you don’t have to do it alone.
You can:
• Join Sacred Soul Sessions (bi-weekly group alignment)
• Explore a 1:1 Soul Alignment Session
• Or book a Clarity Call to talk through where you are
The moment you recognize you’re changing is the moment growth has already begun.
Much love,
Laura
