The Principle of Cause and Effect: Understanding the Power of What We Create

Nothing in life happens by chance. Every thought, word, and action sends energy into motion. The Hermetic Principle of Cause and Effect reminds us that everything we experience has a root — a cause — and that cause often begins within us.
This universal law mirrors the Buddhist teaching of karma, which says that what we put out into the world, through our choices and emotions, will eventually return to us. Karma isn’t punishment — it’s balance. It’s life reflecting back to us the energy we’ve been carrying.
This principle invites us into personal responsibility — to pause and ask, What energy am I creating with right now?
When we lead with love, patience, and awareness, those same qualities find their way back to us.
In my sessions, I often see the power of this shift. The moment a client recognizes that they can choose differently — that they can create their life rather than simply react to it — a light turns on inside them. That’s when true transformation begins.
Meditation: Creating from Awareness
Find a quiet space and close your eyes.
Take a few slow, deep breaths — in through your nose and out through your mouth.
Imagine a soft golden light surrounding you, clearing away the noise of the day.
Think of one area in your life where you feel ready to create change.
Ask gently:
“What energy have I been sending out around this?”
Now breathe love and understanding into that space.
With each exhale, release old energy.
With each inhale, bring in compassion and clarity.
Repeat silently:
“I take responsibility for the energy I bring into the world.”
“I choose to create with love.”
Sit in stillness for a few moments, letting that truth anchor into your heart.
Three-Minute Kriya to Develop a Meditative Mind
This short Kundalini Yoga practice strengthens intuition and helps you understand the energy of cause and effect, minimizing karmic patterns.
Posture: Sit in Rock Pose (on your heels) with a straight spine.
Eyes: One-tenth open.
Mudra: Press your palms together with fingers and thumbs touching. Stretch your arms straight up over your head, elbows locked, upper arms pressed against your ears. Apply about 15 pounds of gentle pressure against the ears.
Breath: Inhale deeply, suspend the breath, then completely exhale. The inhale and hold together should last about 60 seconds. Quickly exhale and repeat for a total of three cycles.
Mantra: Mentally vibrate any mantra of your choice — such as Sat Nam or Om Shanti.
This kriya develops the neutral mind — the space where intuition and wisdom meet — giving you the ability to sense the outcome of your actions before they unfold.
